Le présent ouvrage vise à contribuer à combler cette lacune en alliant réflexion théorique et illustration pratique. Après une rétrospective sur les théorisations sur la traduction qui ont été effectuées dans d'autres disciplines, notamment en linguistique comparative, la première partie introduit la traductologie en tant que discipline sui generis et montre l'intérêt de celle-ci pour la filière LEA. La deuxième partie examine l'objet central de la traductologie, la traduction, conçue comme produit et surtout comme activité fondamentalement stratégique avant d'en illustrer trois grandes variantes. La troisième partie aborde successivement les diverses disciplines ancillaires que mobilise une traduction efficace : analyse textuelle, recherche documentaire, lexicologie et lexicographie, terminologie et terminographie, rédaction et informatique appliquée à la traduction.
